Cabinetmaking Course Outline
This course introduces the students to the different methods of constructing furniture and the completion of a furniture piece (night stand) that can be expanded into a gun cabinet, entertainment center, bookshelf, etc.

Outline of Course
Students learn proper tool usage and safety through the initial project which is a handheld wood sanding block that requires the use of the following tools:
Tablesaw
Bandsaw
Compound Miter saw
Drill presses
Timesaver Sander
Jointer
Students learn to read project prints and sketch individual parts that go into the assembly of the furniture piece.
Students improve their math skills during the parts sketching through addition and subtract of widths and thickness of wood and other parts so that the pieces fit together during assembly.
Students construct the piece of furniture using the following techniques:
Joinery
Mortise and Tenon
Dovetails
Dowel pinning
Biscuit inlay
Joint Cuts
Rabbets
Dados
Decorative Router edges
Miters
Panel Construct
Squaring Techniques using the tablesaw and slide table
Rough cutting and assembly
Glues and screw techniques
Finish
Sanding - hand and timesaver
Scraping
Staining
Varnishing
Final wax and polishing
Grading
Grading is based on quality and following fundamentals of woodworking and finishes.
50% - grading and evaluating the individual pieces as constructed.
50% - grading the final project for quality of the joinery and
finish.
